Adobe Max Conference: Event 3
Location: Los Angelos (In-Person/Online)
On October 11th, I attended Day 2 of the Adobe Max Conference, today they had four speakers but
I took notes on two of the speakers which were Aaron Draplin (Graphic Designer) and Karan X
Chang (Creative Director). During this conference, we follow along with each speaker while they talk
about life, the challenges they faced, and how they were able to succeed in life in their careers.
The first speaker was Aaron Draplin, he mentioned that when he was younger his first design was on
a skateboard and he made other graphic designs by hand. He eventually went back to school to learn
screen printing. Then, in 2007 he was able to make something of his career by putting out his own work
for himself and others. Eventually, he was able to work with Adobe, Phish, Bernie Sanders, Voyager
and NASA. Draplin's presentation was very informational and funny since he cursed a couple
times throughout the presentation, but other than that his presentation was creative and very colorful.
He used bold lettering and bright colors as background during his speech. I learned a lot from him and
continued to do research about his work.
The next speaker was Karan X Chang a Creative Director,
she talked about how she first posted a video to her social
media and it reached 1k views, then next day it ended up
with 1 million views. She also talked about the
algorithm and how the next time she posted a video it
flopped. The algorithm vs the artist, in order to get a
picture/video to blow up you must post according to the
algorithm. She mentioned the algorithm is flawed and it
should be one post for yourself and one for the algorithm.
I learned a lot from her speech because when I posted to
Tik Tok one day I have a lot of likes and the next time I didn't. She says to post according to the trend
but don't let the algorithm robs you of your creativity. Just post whatever YOU like whether it flops or
blows up do it for yourself. In class, we talked about careers in Computer Graphics and Draplin
mentioned what jobs he worked for which seemed very fun and interesting being a Creative Director
comes with its challenges but overall Chang is doing it for herself. Computer Graphic majors have a
lot of opportunities to find jobs and learn more from these two speakers.
